I am a UKCP registered counsellor, psychotherapist and trauma practitioner, who has been practicing for over 15 years. As well as my private practice, I have many years experience working in organisational settings and occupational health. I am committed to providing counselling, psychotherapy and EMDR in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment.

I can provide short term therapy (6 - 12 sessions) to explore one particular issue, or longer term work where the opportunity for more profound exploration is possible.

I am experienced in helping clients who are struggling with :

  • Stress - can impact us physically, mentally and emotionally. Stress symptoms vary widely but can include headaches, racing heart, inability to focus, reduction or increase in appetite, stomach problems, irritability, ruminating thoughts and poor sleep. Learning to recognise stress symptoms and to build resilience can be instrumental in maintaining good mental health.

  • Occupational Health issues - Work load, bullying, harassment, redundancy are all factors that impact people in the workplace leading to feelings of stress, anxiety, low mood or helplessness.

  • Relationship Problems - Learning to understand the dynamics of our relationships, whether with a partner, child, friend or work colleague can help in improving communication and lead to more satisfying and fulfilling connections with people. (Couples Counselling also available)

  • Depression and Anxiety - 1 in 4 people are likely to struggle with a mental health problem at some point in their lives and depression and anxiety will make up a significant number of these. Psychotherapy or counselling can support recovery whether medication is needed or not giving a space to explore the negative thinking cycles that impact on our mood, body sensations and behaviours.

  • Panic Attacks - Some people have the frightening experience of Panic Attacks which can cause breathing difficulties, a racing heart and feelings of wanting to escape. Counselling and where appropriate EMDR can help us to identify triggers and to find coping tools to manage symptoms.

  • Loss & Bereavement - Grieving is a something that everyone goes through at some point in their lives whether it be for a loved one, a pet or a job. Grief feelings can range from denial, desolation, sadness to anger or even relief. No two grief processes are the same and having a space to talk with someone who is not connected to the loss can be helpful in supporting a healthy grieving process.

  • Trauma and Abuse (childhood and adult) - People who have experienced emotional, physical or sexual abuse often struggle with a wide range of symptoms such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, addictions, dissociation and relationship problems. Psychotherapy and where appropriate EMDR can help us understand what has happened, the impact it has had on us and to regain a sense of control and trust in ourselves and others.

  • Self Esteem issues
  • Compulsive & Addictive Behaviours
  • Meaningless, emptiness and lack of purpose in life

I am an accredited EMDR Practitioner with EMDR UK & Ireland. EMDR is an acronym for Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing. It is a therapeutic method which uses bilateral stimulation to help clients remove negative associations with past and present experiences. EMDR along with CBT is recognised by the NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) Guidelines as the treatment of choice for Trauma. However, EMDR practitioners have also reported successful outcomes in working with: Panic, Phobias, Performance Anxiety, Confidence Building, Stress, Pain Disorders, Eating Disorders and Addictions amongst others.
